On September 26, 2023, Francesco Ongaro obtained the certification "Ethical Hacking: Footprinting and Reconnaissance".
Ethical hackers use their knowledge for positive purposes: to test if an organization's network is vulnerable to external attacks. But where do they start? With footprinting and reconnaissance, which is the process of gathering information about devices and the people who use them.
This course introduces the concepts, tools, and techniques behind footprinting: researching related websites, determining operating system and location information, identifying users through social media and financial services, email tracking, and more. Footprinting relies on simple tools like web searches and retrieving information from "waste" (a classic example being a disk thrown in the trash), but also on complex tools like DNS queries and traceroute analysis.
The course illustrates how to put these tools, which may seem complicated, at the service of organizations and how to mitigate the risks an organization is exposed to from these types of attacks.
