Details and Information on the eIDAS Regulation
The eIDAS Regulation (electronic IDentification Authentication and Signature), officially defined in the regulation (EU) no. 910/2014 is a set of rules governing electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the European Market.
More specifically, it has defined standards to regulate:
Electronic signatures;
Time stamps;
Digital certificates;
and other methods of digital authentication.
As a European regulation, all EU members are obliged to recognize these standard methods and consider them equivalent to the paper methods already in use. In some countries, this system is already in use; in Italy, it is the SPID system. In particular, it is possible to use the eIDAS login for the services listed on this site: https://www.eid.gov.it/servizi.
eIDAS Regulation: What Does It Entail?
The eIDAS regulation:
details the conditions under which member states recognize a citizen's digital identification;
establishes rules regarding economic transactions;
legally defines digital authentication tools.
Furthermore, it allows each EU member country to make public their services accessible with eIDAS login.
This concretely allows Italian citizens to access numerous public services in EU countries.
