AGID Cloud for the PA

Recently, there has been a significant shift in the management of cloud qualification for public administration (PA) in Italy. Previously, the Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale (AGID) was responsible for this process, but now the responsibilities have been transferred to the Agenzia per la cybersicurezza nazionale (ACN). This change was implemented to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of managing cloud qualification for the PA and to ensure better alignment with the country's digital strategies.

With the transition from AGID to ACN, a process of reviewing and realigning policies, guidelines, and technical requirements for cloud qualification for the PA has been initiated. ACN has worked closely with public administrations and cloud service providers to ensure a more consistent and uniform approach in assessing the compliance of cloud service providers.

ACN's management of cloud qualification for the PA is based on criteria of security, reliability, and quality of services. ACN has established clear procedures for evaluating the compliance of cloud service providers, including security checks, data management standards, and adherence to privacy regulations.

The main goal of ACN is to ensure that the cloud services used by public administrations are secure, reliable, and compliant with the needs of the Italian public administration.

Cloud qualification for the PA

Cloud qualification for the PA refers to the process through which cloud service providers must obtain specific certification or qualification to provide cloud computing services to Italian public administrations.

In Italy, the AGID (Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale) was the entity responsible for defining the guidelines and technical requirements for cloud qualification for the PA. AGID established the standards and procedures for assessing the compliance of cloud service providers with the security, reliability, and quality requirements defined for public administrations.

Cloud service providers must undergo an evaluation and compliance process, which may include security checks, data management standards, service reliability, adherence to privacy regulations, and other specific requirements. Only after passing this evaluation can they be qualified as cloud service providers for the Italian public administration.

What is ACN in Italy?

ACN (Agenzia per la cybersicurezza nazionale) was created in 2016 and has taken over the functions previously performed by AGID (Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale). Its main role is to promote and coordinate digital innovation in Italy, supporting the development and use of digital technologies in the public sector, industry, and society as a whole.

Among ACN's activities are defining standards and guidelines for digitalization, promoting the interoperability of digital services, data management, and information security. ACN also plays a coordinating role among various Italian public administrations to foster collaboration and the adoption of common digital solutions.

Furthermore, ACN is involved in disseminating best practices in digital transformation, implementing policies for access to and use of digital technologies, and promoting digital literacy.
